The new Xbox 360 slim is designed specifically to run with Microsoft’s new motion sensing technology known as the Kinect. The Kinect is a camera that can detect body movements of several different people. These body movements are what controls the new Kinect games, setting the technology apart from the Wii and Playstation Move. Once you have the Kinect, there is no need to purchase any additional controllers or other peripherals, since the Xbox Kinect does all the tracking designed for controlling Kinect games.
There is a special port on the back of the new Xbox 360 slim that will allow users to connect their Kinect. For those who own older versions of the system, the stand alone camera converter can be purchased to plug the Kinect into one of the USB ports on the older system. While newer systems will not require an external power supply for the Kinect, those who own one of the older white systems will need to purchase a power brick.
The brand new 360 is thirty percent slimmer than its older counterpart and features a brand new shiny black finish. The new system also has several new perks that are available, including an amazingly quiet fan that can detect if the system is overheating and shut it off before the infamous red ring of death occurs. This technology practically eliminates a common problem that has plagued the 360 console since its release. Aside from a quieter fan, the new 360 slim also features a built in wireless internet adapter, which is perhaps the best feature of all, since owners of the older console had to purchase an adapter separately. In addition, the slim version features a 250GB hard drive that is the current largest hard drive available on the market for storing all of your downloadable content and arcade games.
