When do the bad guys usually strike your home or office for a burglary? Usually it happens at night or while you are away from home. Sometimes the bad guys will hit during the day but more often than not is under the cover of darkness.

As a security consultant I have noticed a new trend emerging that is disturbing for me. It seems that social media is playing a large part in the security of our homes and business with people who have loose lips and want to tell the world their every move. How many times do you see people on Facebook posting that they will be away from home for 2 weeks while on vacation? This is really a stupid move and you are telling the bad guys that you will be gone and go break into my house. If you are going to do something silly like this you better have or be looking into video surveillance systems for your home or business.

I have been doing security for over 20 years now. I never thought it would come to this. I go through a checklist when I meet with a client for the first time. I have added a few things to my checklist when I meet with a new or existing client. I ask them about their social media profiles and how active they are with postings. It is extremely important that you do not give away clues about the security of your property online. Even if you are only going to be gone for 2 hours to a soccer game for your child, you should not post such things on Twitter and Facebook. Wireless surveillance cameras will give you a certain degree of safety and a warm fuzzy feeling while you are away from your home. Make sure your home alarm system will interact with a smartphone such as an iPhone or Android. That will allow you to view live security video of your home while you are away. For goodness sakes, stop telling everyone where you are going everyday. Your home will be much safer.

By using some simple techniques, it should be possible to complete an external hard drive repair all by yourself. The key to doing this correctly is to start with checking hardware first make sure physical components are working correctly.

This can be done by connecting up your external hard drive to the PC in starting up the computer. What you are listening out for is the sounds of damage coming from inside the hard drive. Most notably, you may hear a clicking sound when the motor is starting to fail or grinding sounds which can only indicate that metallic components are rubbing against each other (e.g. such as the read/write heads against the platter). The best advice is to shut down the system and to get a PC service technician to have a look at the external hard drive internals.

With your external hard drive still connected to the system you should open up the Device Manager. This utility is rarely used by most PC users but it is highly effective at identifying hardware problems. In particular, PC freezes due to conflicts between components can easily be identified. This is a major cause of USB hard drive issues if you are using several USB devices all of once. The program provides some pretty good solutions and suggestions about how to fix specific problems.

You should also check the USB cable for signs of damage. Make sure that the cable itself is not being caught or received any sort of Burns are heat damage. The pins as well also need to check to make sure there’ll intact. If you can use another cable then that is also worth trying. You should try connecting via different USB port just in case one port has become physically damaged.

Lastly, check the hard drive memory itself for signs of bad sectors. You can use programs like Windows error checking tool to complete the external hard drive repair of software related sector damage.

For those that do not want to take on the task of reparing their computer themselves, they are not alone in this line of thinking. That is why there are many computer technicians out there that you can take the computer to or even those that will come to your home to fix the computer. However, when choosing a computer technician there are a few aspects that they should discuss with them first in order to make sure that they are finding the right computer technician for them. Believe it or not, all computer technicians are not equal. There are those that are better than others, just as there is with every trade that is offered.

First things first, ask the technician (find one in your area! Baltimore IT services or any other city you live in) just how much time that they have in the trade. The reason is that the more experience that they have, usually the quicker that they can fix the problem. Plus, it just gives the customer much more confidence that they are going to get a job that is done right the first time and the problem is going to be rectified.

Secondly, ask them how they charge their fees. There are those that are going to charge the consumer based on the job that they are doing, which is usually the way that people want to be charged. The other option is to charge by the hour, this can get the person into a lot of money in the end, which is why most people do not want this kind of charging rate. You should also make sure that you get a roundabout figure of the cost of repair before you leave the computer with them, so you know what to expect.

Ask the technician if they guarantee their work, this is really important. This means that they are going to do their best to make sure that they fix the problem because if they do not they will be working on the computer free of charge. Most people will not go with someone that does not guarantee their work, and this is a wise decision.

Ask if they will do a data backup on your computer. The reason is that many people that take their computer to the technician find that they lose everything that is on the computer. If the technician backs up the data then the person can always get those important files back, which is sometimes a huge relief to the consumer. Any technician that does not offer this, you may want to think twice about going with them since most technicians do offer this.

Troubleshooting why a PC keeps restarting is made all the more difficult because you don’t get exception messages displayed on the monitor which indicate what the root cause of the problem actually is. With this in mind, there are four different checks you can do using Windows utilities to try and identify and pinpoint where the problem actually lies.

Your first check should always be to make sure the system is not overheating. Open the BIOS menu in the diagnostic section and make sure the CPU temperatures are within guidelines (check the manufacturer website for details). If not, the CPU and hard drive will be overheating and the BIOS will automatically restart the system for you to protect components. Clear out dust from inside the PC and make sure air vents not being blocked. Then, check fan blades are not being damaged and that the heat sink is in good condition.

More commonly, if your PC keeps restarting before you even get the chance to login then you will need to resort to the last known good configuration (advanced start menu – hit F8 as Windows boots). This utility from Microsoft will rollback changes to the registry file in order to bypass any corruption or virus damage that has occurred.

If you’re able to login then you can check the event viewer log for signs of damage. It shows exceptions that are being tracked in the moments prior to when the PC keeps restarting. These exceptions can then be checked online to identify what software/hardware they relate to and what possible workarounds are solutions are available.

Finally, there are plenty of bad sector repair free tools you can use (e.g. Windows own error checking tool) that can be used to check for physical faults to your hard drive. In addition, running the Device Manager tool will also pick up if there are other hardware conflicts or problems with components/peripherals that could be causing the restart.

Computers have become man’s best friend. It seems to be the first thing people go to when they need something. They go to it for directions, to read the news, to play games, to chat with friends, and more. So when someone is having trouble getting their computer to function the way it is supposed to, it can be stressful. As complex and high tech as computers are, they are very susceptible to viruses and other issues. If you are a computer expert and know how to get your computer back up and running the way it is supposed to, then great. If you don’t have a clue what to do to fix it, the best thing to do is to take it to get computer repair in Ottawa (assuming you are from around these parts). Just like you would take your car to get repaired if something was wrong with it, you need to take your computer in to the shop to get it repaired when its having problems too.

Chances are you have a lot of valuable information on your computer, including files, pictures, documents, and more. You don’t want to risk your computer shutting down completely and losing all of that data. Shops that deal with computer repair in Ottawa can remove spam, viruses, install better software, back up your data or even recover data you may have already lost, and more. Even if you don’t have pop-ups or spam mail coming up frequently, if you computer is running slower than usual, you most likely have some type of virus. Sometimes people just deal with the slower computers, instead of getting it fixed, but that is usually a mistake because your computer will just become slower and slower until it’s too late to get it fixed. If you are having trouble with your computer, don’t wait. Get it fixed so you can continue relying on your computer for all your needs.

When trying to fix a broken external hard drive it is important to start out with doing some hardware and software checks first to make sure you do not cause any data loss during data recovery. In this post I’ll step through some of the checks you can do which may also help repair the drive.

Start by checking all your hardware for signs of physical damage, beginning with the cables. Make sure the USB cables have not got any damaged connector pins and that they show no signs of burnout damage. Try using a different USB port to see if the port could in fact be the issue. It may even be wise to use a secondary PC the test out the system using a completely new computer (to isolate the problem down to the drive itself). If the broken external hard drive has been dropped or had water/fire damage then this type of hdd repair should be left to experts to complete.

Software checks may also detect if there are perceived issues with the drive. Start by opening the Device Manager utility to check that the broken external hard drive has been detected properly and that the driver utilities are operating without are. It may also be that there are hardware conflicts between your drive and some other component. This can happen especially when using USB splitters.

If these attempts at doing a HDD repair have failed then you may need to resort to data recovery software. Install these tools onto your computer, connects the external drive and then scan it for any data. There are a wide range of data recovery tools available online and most of them support the FAT32 format used on external hard drives. Data recovery experts will have more sophisticated tools which will even be able to recover files from a disk that has been repeatedly overwritten (by detecting data shadows).

The only way most people know how to perform a cell phone lookup is through their own contact lists, and as surprising as it may seem, many people are not even aware of the existence of legitimate providers of these services. These options are more than just tricks used by clever authors and Hollywood storytellers, there are resources out there right now that can help to put a name to almost any number one may come across, and there are many that also specialize in the reverse of this process, helping to put numbers to names.

A reverse cell phone lookup, as it is commonly called, is one of the most useful tools available within the modern communications techniques, as far as the average individual is concerned. We do live in the information age, and just about any type of information is valuable to someone these days, but cell phone owner information is rapidly turning into digital gold for a growing number of professions including bounty hunting and locating outstanding debtors.

While there are many free cell phone lookup options, the free options are most commonly abbreviated versions of the larger record that must be paid for. The information returned in the reverse cell phone lookup free options are rarely updated as the actual records are, leaving many open to discrepancies from the latest information. This fact, and the limited information returned, often motivates most to immediately pay for more information, but there are some lesser-known options that can be very effective in retrieving the same data.

Sometimes, taking the information returned in a free search from White Pages, on treadmills for sale cheap, for example, can reveal enough clues to track the additional information down through other resources. It is quite amazing how much information can be had from simply typing a number into a search engine, and when you add resources like Facebook and the other social networks, the potential is much higher for finding quality and accurate information on your own.

Formatted data recovery can now be achieved by amateurs using widely available freeware tools. However it can be a little bit more complex than simply retrieving deleted files as the process of finding formatted data could actually overwrite some of these documents. Here I’ll show you some of the tips and techniques you should apply.

Many users format the disk to make Windows startup faster or bypass operating system flaws. This is worth doing if you make sure you’ve backed up all of your critical information first. If not then data recovery tools will become invaluable to you.

These applications scan the drive looking for clusters/file fragments that can be pieced together. You install the program, scan the disk and copy the documents it finds.

One fatal mistake that many users make is installing their program onto the formatted disk. This can actually cause the original clusters to be written over with the installation files. It is much more preferable to use the second partition or even an external hard disk will do. Likewise, when cloning the files from the analysis report you should use any location except the formatted disk.

Perform a formatted data recovery also becomes more difficult if your formatting application included a commercial evidence sweep. These are often used to remove any of your personal information when you’re getting rid of the computer. They remove data clusters from the disk so that data recovery software cannot locate or compile any of your files. In this scenario it is possible that data recovery experts could retrieve some of your files based on data shadows.

Lastly, don’t leave it too long before attempting a formatted data recovery. Any delays or usage of the system for storing files, reinstalling the OS or running applications all result in new documents being stored on the disk.

Ergonomics is the art of improving physical posture during work for the prevention of carpal tunnel and other repetitive motion injuries. This is a common problem in the modern world since almost all office workers use computers and many are forced to use laptops because of hectic traveling schedules.

One common solution to improve the ergonomics of laptop use is to buy a laptop stand that raises the computer off the desk, placing the screen at eye level. This solves one major physical problem — being forced to constantly look down at your screen while working. This body position can be a source of major neck and shoulder pain as it is very unnatural to hold this position for long periods of time.

Using a laptop stand to raise the screen has an additional benefit — it forces the user to plug in an external keyboard as it is impossible to type with a laptop in this position. The benefit derived from using an additional keyboard is that laptops have very restricted key pad configurations. They are smaller, shallow and crammed in to a tighter space than regular keyboards which can cause significant wrist, hand and arm strain. However, if an ergonomic keyboard is plugged into a laptop that sits on a stand, this can greatly reduce muscle and tendon pressure. (This article was in fact written in just such a situation!)

For people that work in more industrial situations (factories, warehouses, retail stores) a unique solution is required for laptops that need to be raised higher than stands used mainly in offices. This solution can be found in the form of a DJ laptop stand which are used by club DJs in their performances. There are many types of affordable models that are much more durable than their office counterparts because they are used in more physically active situations, so they’re designed to take more pressure and constant use.
