If Law Enforcement Can Trample Your Cell Phone Privacy Anyone Can

Big brother is back and this time, he is here with a vengeance.  Law enforcement agencies can now track a person by their cell phones and they do not need a warrant to do so.  The only thing that law enforcement is required to do is tell a judge that the suspect or person being tracked is part of an ongoing investigation.  The surprising part is that they only need to tell give a judge this information if asked to do so.  Otherwise, they need only supply a cell phone company a few facts about the person to obtain the information.

Exploited Information Acts

A cell phone tracker application can be used by law enforcement to track the movements of people through the “Stored Communications Act.”  If questions or problems arise, the free cell phone tracker can still be used with a judge’s permission using the “Pen Register Act.”  The question arises how this could be so easy and who else can access this information.  Cell phones and cell phone records are not regulated.  There are no laws governing the privacy of anyone’s information.

How It Works

Smartphone Market: Crisis, What Crisis?

There are not many market segments which were not bashed by the present liquidity crisis. One of the more prominent is the smartphone market. It is well and growing at a steady pace, only comparable to the economical growing seen during the dot com bubble.

The only difference here to the dot com bubble of the end of the 20th century is that the smartphone industry has a solid product, in a solid market with many competitors.

Even comparing the smartphone market with the cell-phone market makes the former look good.

Although not everything is perfect in this hi tech gadgets market. The market tends to get more and more polarized around two mayor players the Apple iPhone and the Google Android, which runs on their own phones and in many of the competition.

Both smartphones, the iPhone and Android, have their advantages. In the case of the iPhone users get a rock solid technology, where one company, namely Apply controls the whole process of developing, testing and deploying software to a device that they know well and control. The corners are polished and there are no bumps in the road to users of such phone. But, there is also not much diversity in the offers of software. In the case of Android, the process is more open to many to deliver their solution to a open source platform. No single source is controlling what’s going on the OS. It means more diversity but also more unexpected troubles.

In the past, we have seen a similar scenario with the same Apple company, but another opponent, Microsoft. The results are new to all the most diverse player, in that case Microsoft won the battle for bigger market shares and for a multi-billion business. It seems to be equally the case here.

These are just a few of the factors to take into consideration when planning for the purchase of a new phone. What is important when buying a phone is that you end up with a unit that has the functionality, features and look that you prefer; as most shoppers will keep a new phone for quite some time.

Why Are Ringback Tones So Great?

Ringback tones have been available from cellphone companies for quite a few years, but they are not quite as ubiquitous as ringtones. In order to help you understand what these things are, I thought I’d give you a short description, and then my top 5 list of why I think ringback tones are great.

First, what is a ringback? Actually, everyone with a cellphone already has a standard ringtone and a standard ringback tone. The ringtone is what the person being called hears from their cellphone when someone is calling them. If your cellphone is ringing then you are hearing your ringtone. These have been customizable for ages. You can download ringtones and customize what you hear when certain people call you. The ringback tone that everyone is already familiar with is actually played from the cell carriers network – when you are calling someone and waiting for them to pickup, your cellphone will make a ‘ring ring’ sound in your earpiece. This tone was never customizable before, but now that phone companies have introduced downloadable ringback tones, you can change this tone on your phone. That means that whenever someone calls you and are waiting for you to pick up the phone, they will hear your ringback tone instead of the boring old ‘ring ring’.

Ok, now that I’ve explained ringbacks, let me tell you why I think they are so great, and why you should get one or two to try out.
First, they are cool and add a customizable personality to your phone that entertains your friends and family every time they call you. You can choose from just about any music genre, top hits or classic songs, or even audio clips like celebrity voices or comedy clips.

Second, you can have more than one ringback tone, and you can set different tones to play when individual numbers call you, or when a number from a particular group calls you. You can even set your ringback tone to change during different times of the day.
Third, the majority of cell companies give you a feature called Jukebox, which lets you shuffle your ringbacks. This lets you play your ringbacks for people, but won’t force them to listen to the same one every time they call.

Forth, ringbacks are cheap. For example, the standard price for Verizon ringback tones is $1.99 each, and that lets you use the ringback tone for a year. In addition to the cost of the individual ringback tones, you will have to pay a monthly ringback tone service fee, which enables the service for your cellphone line.
Fifth, if you have a business line, you can completely customize your ringback tone(s) to advertise your services or specials. You can also program your ringback tones to give customers information about your business while they are waiting for someone to answer their call.

Hopefully this has given you some insight about what ringback tones are, and maybe given you some incentive to try them out. Just about all the major cell carriers will let you download ringbacks, from Verizon ringback tones, to AT&T, to T-Mobile, anyone with a cellphone can take advantage of the coolness that ringbacks offer.

Buying a Cell Phone for the Elderly

Here is one big reason on why I’m thinking of buying a cell phone for the elderly. Dad had a lot of problems operating his cell phone. He would fumble for quite some time and then would type and retype his messages all over again. He would be lucky if he had accidentally stored his messages in the draft folder but then again accidentally storing the messages rarely happen.

When on a conversation over the phone, he would repeatedly say what and then would give up in defeat nodding his head and saying uh-uh. I recently found out that he was pretending to understand the conversation when he finally let it slip out of his own mouth.

When a friend suggested I check out a cell phone for the elderly I was flabbergasted and also relieved. He said these gadgets were really handy and that I should try them with Dad.
They got a lot of good reviews from a lot of senior citizens so I figured out as much that I should give it a try.

Upon getting to the store, I found out that these gadgets were really handy. They looked like big calculators with extra buttons. The cell phone had a wide screen and wide buttons. It also had limited functions which was swell because dad did not use any of those gamming or music features.

When I tried out the volume of the speakers, it nearly blasted my ear pout. I was amazed by the clearness and loudness of the speaker. It turns out that these cell phones have greater maximum volume than that of an average cell phone. Another great thing was that they came with GPS and emergency buttons. I figured out that this would help dad in case an emergency arises.

I walked out of the store feeling pleased; knowing the cell phone for the elderly would be really great for dad. Now, guess what I’m getting dear old dad for Christmas?
