GuestPoster By using some simple techniques, it should be possible to complete an external hard drive repair all by yourself. The key to doing this correctly is to start with checking hardware first make sure physical components are working correctly.
This can be done by connecting up your external hard drive to the PC in starting up the computer. What you are listening out for is the sounds of damage coming from inside the hard drive. Most notably, you may hear a clicking sound when the motor is starting to fail or grinding sounds which can only indicate that metallic components are rubbing against each other (e.g. such as the read/write heads against the platter). You should also check the USB cable for signs of damage. Make sure that the cable itself is not being caught or received any sort of Burns are heat damage. The pins as well also need to check to make sure there’ll intact. If you can use another cable then that is also worth trying. You should try connecting via different USB port just in case one port has become physically damaged.
Lastly, check the hard drive memory itself for signs of bad sectors. You can use programs like Windows error checking tool to complete the external hard drive repair of software related sector damage.
