Are Bad Guys Monitoring Social Media For Opportunities?

When do the bad guys usually strike your home or office for a burglary? Usually it happens at night or while you are away from home. Sometimes the bad guys will hit during the day but more often than not is under the cover of darkness.

As a security consultant I have noticed a new trend emerging that is disturbing for me. It seems that social media is playing a large part in the security of our homes and business with people who have loose lips and want to tell the world their every move. How many times do you see people on Facebook posting that they will be away from home for 2 weeks while on vacation? This is really a stupid move and you are telling the bad guys that you will be gone and go break into my house. If you are going to do something silly like this you better have or be looking into video surveillance systems for your home or business.

I have been doing security for over 20 years now. I never thought it would come to this. I go through a checklist when I meet with a client for the first time. I have added a few things to my checklist when I meet with a new or existing client. I ask them about their social media profiles and how active they are with postings. It is extremely important that you do not give away clues about the security of your property online. Even if you are only going to be gone for 2 hours to a soccer game for your child, you should not post such things on Twitter and Facebook. Wireless surveillance cameras will give you a certain degree of safety and a warm fuzzy feeling while you are away from your home. Make sure your home alarm system will interact with a smartphone such as an iPhone or Android. That will allow you to view live security video of your home while you are away. For goodness sakes, stop telling everyone where you are going everyday. Your home will be much safer.

The Usage of Ethernet Splitters – Noteworthy Points

The ethernet splitter should always be used in pairs. This may make you a bit confused, but yes so was I. The ethernet splitters should be used in pairs because, one of the so called splitter acts as a combiner at the input side while feeding the input from the router to the ethernet cable. Thus making the ethernet cable to carry signals corresponding to two network devices. A probable scenario could be that you have brought a new play station which has to be connected to the network. So along with the computer if you want to connect the play station to the network you will have to connect it using another ethernet cable. This is one solution but not a feasible solution in case you run these ethernet cables through the walls and do not have spare cables running inside. Sometimes people do not want to connect an additional ethernet cable because it looks cumbersome and messy (Imagine the ethernet cable running from one room to another room, crossing one door to the other, surely seems messy). So usage of rj45 splitter is a good solution (next best to using wireless means of transfer, which again is not preferred by some for its speed constraints and long term health problems).

Buying a proper rj45 splitter as per your requirements is very important. A data – data splitter can be used to connect two data devices like computers or play stations. Whereas connecting a voice device like telephone would require a voice splitter i.e. the voice-voice for 2 voice devices or data – voice splitter for using both.
