How You Can Add A 1 GB RAM Module To Your Computer

One of the biggest complaints that computer users have is that their computer just isn’t fast enough.  Most computers these days are not shipped with enough RAM in them and adding a 1 GB RAM module will have a significant impact on the performance of your computer.  RAM is very inexpensive these days and it’s also quite easy to install.

You would think that all computer manufacturers would use the same type of RAM but they don’t.  It’s not as simple as going into the computer store and saying I need to purchase a 1 GB RAM module for a Dell computer.  You will need to know the exact numbers that are printed on the existing RAM modules that are in your computer in order to purchase the correct RAM module that will be compatible with your existing RAM.  To do this, simply remove one of the old RAM modules and write down what is printed on it. You’ll need to find out if your need a 1 GB DDR1 RAM module or a 1 GB DDR2 RAM module

It doesn’t take long at all to install a new RAM module in a computer.  Before you begin, you’ll want to protect yourself from an electric shock by unplugging the computer from the wall.  It’s always a good idea to double check and make sure that you actually unplug the correct cord before you open the computer box.  Next, take the access panel screws out and remove the access panel.  The next step is important to insure that you don’t damage in the sensitive electronic parts of the computer by discharging any static electricity that may be built up in your body.  You do this by touching a metal portion of the computer before you touch anything else.

Now is the time to remove the RAM module from the packaging.  When you do this use caution to only touch the edges of the module.  Next, look at the existing RAM modules and see how they are oriented.  Then insert the new RAM module next to existing RAM modules into an open memory slot.  You’ll likely have to push quite firmly to get the retaining clips to snap closed.  The last thing you’ll need to do is replace the access panel and the job is done.

The Absolute Best Cell Phone Locator

I’ll cut right to the chase and tell you that I believe the best cell phone locator application that you can choose is the Sprint Family Locator.  In my opinion, Sprint beats the other cell phone GPS tracking applications hands down.  The others tracking apps are Google Latitude, Find My iPhone, Glympse, and Mobiwee.

The main reason I believe that the Sprint Family Locator wins hands down in the cell phone tracking challenge is because Sprint offers so many features that the other cell phone tracking applications just don’t have.  Even though Sprint charges about five bucks a month to use the system, I still believe that it’s the best service.

With the automatic text messaging feature that the Sprint Family Locator has, I’m able to get a text message every day  that tells me that my kids made it home from school safely.  I’m a very busy person and I often can’t break away during my work schedule to make phone calls to check to insure that my children made it home from school without a problem.  I simply get a text message from the Sprint Family Locator system that contains the location of my children.  By glancing down at my cell phone I can see that my children made it home without a problem and I can continue work without interruption.

Another reason that the Sprint Family Locator is better than these other cell phone tracking applications is that you don’t have to upgrade your cell phone to a new programmable smart phone.  It will automatically work with any Sprint or Nextel cell phone.  These other free cell phone tracking applications require the you have a modern programmable smart phone and that you download the cell phone tracking client onto your phone.

While it might seem like the free cell phone locating applications are free, this can be a little bit misleading because you are required to subscribe to a data plan with your cell phone service provider in order for the cell phone tracking applications to work.  This isn’t the case with the cell phone tracker from Sprint.

Sony’s basic laptops, like the EC series, start at $819 and can be upgraded for additional cost. A downside to Sony is that they are a bit on the expensive side, and do not offer as much customizable options as Dell. However, their quality and customer service is top notch, and their higher prices are ideal for the student that favors a bit more quality for a slightly higher price.

Finally, no discussion about college laptops is complete without talking about Apple laptops. Often, many colleges offer Apple laptops at their university stores, giving a nice discount to college students, as well as small bonus items, such as a free Ipod shuffle. Apple laptops are aesthetically amazing, and their accessibility is much better than it used to be, now that Apple products are more prevalent. However, their laptops are definitely a bit pricier than their competitors. The regular Macbook is $999, which is a tremendous price, since many of the computer’s features can be found in other laptops for a fraction of the price. In addition, Apple laptops use a different operating system from other laptops, which make compatibility an issue with certain programs. Despite these setbacks, the Apple laptop is definitely top of the line, and its quality comes at a steep cost. 3 Ways To Erase Hard Disk Contents With Varying Degrees Of Security

This article goes through the three main ways to erase hard disk contents and details the levels of security that each approach involves.

Low Security: Manual Cleaning

The simplest way to clear documents from a computer is to manually delete them yourself. This approach allows you full control over which files go, and also means you are left with a working operating system.

On the downside though, this will not protect your personal data from being read (using data recovery tools like Undelete Plus) by anyone who receives the computer.

A standard cleaning checklist would include:

  • Remove any old programs you no longer require.
  • Delete personal files you don’t need (for example, torrents or videos).
  • Move whatever personal files that are critical to you (for example, pictures or music) and make at least two copies before deleting the originals off of your disk.
  • Use the Disk Cleanup tool to clear out temp files and cached information.
  • Last of all, empty the recycle bins.

Medium Security: Formatting A Drive

Formatting a disk, using the ‘format’ application on a Windows installation CD, is an approach that might suit you if passing on a computer to a relative or someone you trust.

Many people format the hard disk and reinstall Windows from the CD as a last resort way to salvage a PC that had registry or system file damage. However, even in this instance a PC repair program might be a better option for getting your computer back to health.

Importantly, a formatted drive’s files are not wiped from the disk so data recovery tools could read the disk contents if the PC fell into the hands of someone untrustworthy.

High Security: Data Cleansing Tools

The best way to erase hard disk files if you are concerned about data protection is to use data cleaning programs like BCWipe, Kill Disk or Evidence Nuker. These will completely overwrite the data clusters on the disk memory and stop others from being able to use recovery software to read disk contents.

Microsoft Excel training – doing basic block drawings in Excel

Microsoft Excel was originally designed to make keeping track of numbers and doing calculations easier. Most Microsoft Excel courses will focus on these aspects and teach you how to do them easily. A relatively recent addition to the original Microsoft Excel functionality is its data handling and manipulation capabilities. With data functionality such as filtering, sorting, linking to external sources and grouping of data, basic database functionality can be achieved by using the humble spreadsheet. Once again, these features will be highlighted and taught in most good advanced Microsoft Excel courses.

There are a number of software programs available that have specifically been designed to do drawings, however basic or complex. These programs tend to cater for specific segments of the market, with AutoCAD, Microsoft PowerPoint and Visio and Adobe Photoshop being a few examples. When attending a Microsoft Excel course, learners are taught how to present the data in the spreadsheet in a more professional and usable way by using such tools as borders, fill colour and font colour.

In addition to these, Excel has two facilities to insert pictures, clip art, shapes and smart art. But can Excel be used to do complete (albeit basic) drawings? The answer to this is yes, it can, and what is more, depending on your exact requirements, it is often easier to do in Excel than in any of the other speciality programs mentioned. For simple block diagrams, flow charts and even process maps, I use Excel. Not only does this save me time as I don’t have to learn how to use the other programs, but I also don’t have to purchase another software program.

When next you have to present a quick and easy drawing, consider using Excel and apply the functions used above. From a simple block diagram such as an office layout or organogram to a flow chart or process map, as long as the drawing is relatively simple and small, it can be done in Excel quickly and easily. Maybe this subject should be included in future microsoft Excel training courses?
